In order to stave off cerebral entropy, society resorts to unorthodox therapies. Only one thing is left which can arouse the human species: transgressive behaviour. We are in need of ever stronger emotions Our nervous system craves for new, faster emotions to jump start the synapses deadened by leisure and inaction. The accidie of our burnt-out selves, is treated with a regime of metered violence and a micro-dose of madness. Designer-drugs and designer sex as a healthy nerve tonic, a remedy for senseless work in a meaningless world. Everything is turning deviant, right? Today’s dose of madness is delivered by new technologies, in the form of virtual sex and crime. Yes the deviant and unexpected will keep us sane. Homo ludens is at play, living a life without meaning and purpose. Is play beyond us? Yes, we have given ourselves over to a life of purposeless work. Living a lonely life, a life of infinite virtual tedium. A life of alienation and uncoupling from the world. However, sanity is not found here. Humanity could soon find itself in an empty world.
