ORGY OF IRRATIONALITY

Acrylic on canvas
102cm x 152cm (+20cm frame)

In a world filled with meaninglessness, how did we allow a cosmic madness called religion to take over? Nothing has survived religion’s negativity, right? Everything started with a fall, right? Adam alone was culpable, and Adam alone found refuge in his self-contempt. Why did God put the tree of knowledge in paradise? Why did God allow Adam to eat the apple? Maybe it means that God has a perverse core, right? Or just a subversive kernel? Anyhow, Man became an impotent slave of an external reality, dictated by the empire of the skies. The tyranny over ordinary existences annihilated the spontaneity of a unique existence. Religion mechanised life, and man became a vulgar nullity. A galloping obnubilation made us all to sleepwalkers of the paradise. Like tragedy, religion resolved nothing, because there was nothing to be resolved. Religion made man its object. Yes, the folly of religion to mark its territory here on earth, ended in an unparalleled failure. The geniality of the incurable was finally on its knees. Only nuns and preachers remained God’s loyal groupies. Sadly, we had to find the key to ourselves again. Yes, we don’t know what to believe in, anymore, right? Now, saying “I don't really believe in it, it's just part of my culture”, seems to be the predominant mode of the disavowed belief characteristic of our times. Even if we no longer believe in Santa Claus, in December there is a Christmas tree in almost every house, and in every public square, right? Tricky, but true. Unfortunately, our collective religious key corroded in us, leaving us lolling in lugubrious reflexions, right? A self-respecting man, is a man without religion, right? Maybe Man believes more than he wants to admit? You, see, to be is to be cornered.
