DROWNING IN GOD

Acrylic on canvas
90cm x 122 cm (+2cm tray frame)

God is a refuge from our own individuality. No one is born with any purpose, it's up to Man how he defines his existence. There’s no need for God and the original sin, right? Without God, who or what will fill the vacuum? Do we have to find a new meaning in a godless universe? We shouldn’t rely on inauthentic external goals. Commit to goals that you have set yourself. The philosophical nuke was dropped. From metaphysics gone wrong we all had to look towards a healthy anthropology. Maybe God is just a man, right?  Yes, he is, so to speak, the outward projection of a human's inward nature, right? So, Man created God after all. Yes, Man had got to overcome himself to become Man. Will Man loll in his blessed torpor? Will Man wallow in his magnificent transcendental sclerosis? Or will he become Man. In the centre section we see an homage to Andre Loomis famous illustration, Going to Church, with a little twist. The couple’s child seems not to feel too interested. Neither does the young skateboarder on the far left. However, in the backdrop we see a few pious church goers ready to be drowned in God’s gospel. On top of a white rectangular area filled by Harticle’s, we can identify an ancient Greek philosopher wearing anachronistic shades to protect him from too many divine rays. Nevertheless, one could say that there’s never enough of God on this planet, right?
